Commotie was born from two temporary pop-ups in Kortrijk and Ghent, but since 2020 we've found our permanent home in a unique location on the edge of Ghent — surrounded by greenery and tranquility. Here, we, chef Thomas Gellynck and sommelier Lara De Vlieger, bring our shared vision to life: a place where gastronomy, nature, and experience come together.

Our kitchen revolves around open fire, honest seasonal ingredients, foraging, fermentation, and the bounty from our own garden. Every dish is infused with a deep love for nature, with respect for both the product and the process. We follow a farm-to-table philosophy and aim for zero waste, always mindful of sustainability and creativity.

The atmosphere at Commotie? Like coming over to our living room for dinner. Warm, unpretentious, yet refined. You'll take a seat in a Japanese-inspired minimalist interior — designed in collaboration with architect Merijn Degraeve — where raw textures, soft natural light, and open fire create a setting that’s serene yet vibrant.

At Commotie, it’s about more than just food. From the moment you walk through our gate to the moment you leave, we immerse you in a full sensory experience, where every detail matters. Our dishes surprise with depth and intensity, and our service helps you forget the outside world — as if you’re part of a carefully directed performance.

Our location is also available for private dining, meetings, or special occasions. Commotie can be exclusively rented, with or without our in-house catering. Think of an intimate dinner, a business gathering, or even a film shoot — nestled in nature, yet just a stone’s throw from Ghent.
